First steps after a Turkish customs detention notice

Record the notice, identify the procedure and confirm the applicable deadline before assigning follow-up tasks.

Log the time, customs office and reference number. Determine whether the action follows an approved application or was taken ex officio, and whether the goods are perishable. While the product team compares the goods, have the legal team confirm the governing procedure and the event that starts the deadline.

Where no prior request exists and there is clear evidence of infringement, customs may act ex officio for three working days to allow a valid application. The Ministry describes a separate follow-up period of ten working days for ordinary goods and three for perishables. Keep the clocks separate. By the end of day one, record who submits each document, where and by when.
