When a user searches for your brand, Google’s results page (SERP) shapes their first impression. News, reviews, images and snippets directly affect perceived credibility. Digital reputation begins with Google visibility.

1. Optimise branded search results

If 70% of the first 10 results for the brand name are outside the brand’s control, there is a reputation risk. Fill the first page with brand-owned content through the corporate website, LinkedIn, social media accounts and press pages.

  • Corporate domain + social profiles (LinkedIn, YouTube, X and Instagram)
  • Build authority through Medium and blog pages
  • News visibility: publish PR content with SEO-friendly headlines

2. Google Knowledge Panel and brand identity

The Knowledge Panel is a space for “introducing” the brand’s identity to Google. A logo, description, social links and founder information build user trust.

  • Google Business Profile: Up-to-date category and description
  • Wikidata + Schema: Founder, founding year and brand logo in JSON-LD format
  • Corporate Wikipedia page: An authority signal

3. Raising positive news and blog content in SERPs

SEO-compatible PR articles strengthen the brand’s “positive space”. This content should be supported by regular link building.

Tip: Backlinks involving news websites provide traffic and reputational visibility (Brand Visibility Score).

4. Negative content management: digital hygiene

Negative news and complaints can persist in a brand’s search results. A digital-hygiene strategy is then applied:

  • Move negative results lower with new authoritative content
  • Assess legal request options: DMCA, KVKK and personality rights
  • Submit prompt index-removal requests through Search Console

“Reputation’s digital protection layer consists of unseen results that build trust.”

5. Using Schema.org and Structured Data

In brand reputation, schema markup plays a critical role. Search engines use it to recognise reviews, star ratings, events and information about people.

  • Organization, LocalBusiness and Article schemas should be added.
  • For products, use the aggregateRating structure.
  • For corporate news, apply NewsArticle schema.

6. Managing image-search results

Image search shapes a brand’s image. Poor-quality or irrelevant images damage professional perceptions.

  • Optimise company-photo and logo filenames (brandname-logo.webp)
  • Update EXIF metadata: copyright, description and date
  • Remove irrelevant Google Images results through copyright reports

7. E-E-A-T: expertise, experience, authority and trust

Google’s reputation algorithm now follows E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authority, Trust) principles. Brand visibility is directly linked to how well content meets these criteria.

  • Articles by identified experts
  • References and source citations
  • Accurate identity information on corporate pages (about, contact and privacy)
